About Elysian Eagle
Elysian Eagle is the student-produced literary magazine of Thompson Valley High School. All submissions (art and writing) are created by the current students of TVHS.
The magazine, as an extension of the first Write Life class, was born in the 2016-2017 school year with the support of a generous grant from the Thompson Education Foundation. The magazine is published four times per year--once each quarter--with the final edition produced as a print magazine published with the support of advertising and other student fundraising.
The title was selected by 2016-2017 Write Life students and comes from the word "Elysian" (el-EE-zhan) meaning inspired, beautiful, creative, delightful, peaceful, or blissful; and from "Eagle" (EE-guhl), a large magestic bird of prey, noted for its strength and power--the TVHS mascot.
If you'd like to contribute to the funding of the magazine or have comments or questions, please contact [email protected].
About Write Life
The Write Life is a one-credit, elective course for students in grades 9-12 who have a proclivity toward and a keen interest in reading, writing, and publication. Students are advanced in writing skills and possess positive work habits supportive of a writing-intensive course.
The course fosters students’ interests in writing, assists students in understanding a writing life, and supports students in discovering and developing their writing talents through an attitude of apprenticeship. The course seeks to cultivate an appreciation for a writer’s art and craft and a love of language.
Working as a community of writers, students experiment with a variety of techniques in several genres, contribute to various publications and writing contests, read and critique the work of established authors as well as that of their peers as they are responsible for the publication of the school literary magazine.
